A 28-year-old woman developed adrenal dysfunction after taking an extract of Coriandrum sativa to augment lactation while breastfeeding. The woman had been taking an extract of C. sativa leaves and branches (200 ml of a 10% aqueous extract) for 7 days when she was admitted to hospital with severe diarrhoea and stomach pain. Laboratory investigations were unremarkable and she recovered with palliative therapy. After 15 days she presented complaining of dark skin, depression, dehydration and amenorrhoea, and was diagnosed with adrenal dysfunction. She was treated with intramuscular dexamethasone followed by oral prednisolone and an oral contraceptive, and her symptoms resolved within 10 days.
