USP supplement certification programme could mislead consumers

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has criticised the new Dietary Supplement Verification Program (DVSP) run by the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) for being confusing. The CSPI claims the seal has the potential to mislead consumers into thinking that it endorses the safety and health benefits of the supplement, when in fact, all the USP seal vouches for is the presence, quantity and purity of a supplement’s ingredients.
