Practitioners of Chinese medicine exempt from US ban of Ephedra sinica

US regulators who announced the ban of Ephedra sinica in weight-loss products allowed an exemption for practitioners of Chinese medicine who have been using the herb to treat ailments ranging from asthma to fevers. The FDA said that when E. sinica is taken properly, under a health practitioner’s supervision, the herb can help people overcome asthma attacks, colds and other health problems.
