Irradiated herbal supplements sold in Ireland

The Food Safely Authority of Ireland carried out thermoluminescence tests for herbal supplements and herbal substances and found that 50% of those tested were irradiated either wholly or in part. Eleven of the 16 herbal supplements tested had been irradiated, with five being wholly irradiated and eight having a component irradiated. Of the 10 herbal substances tested only two had an irradiated component. None of the samples that had been irradiated carried the required labelling, which is mandatory under EU legislation.
