Lead poisoning with Ayurvedic remedies

US authors report 12 cases of lead poisoning due to Ayurvedic medicines that were noted between 2000 and 2003 in five US states. Most patients were of Indian origin. The ingested remedies varied widely, only Guglu tablets and Jambrulin were implicated more than once. The blood lead levels of patients ranged from 46 to 112 μg/dl. The lead concentrations of medications varied from 36 to 7900 ppm. Most of the patients were successfully treated with chelation therapy.
