Booming business for alternative therapists in the UK

An analysis of trade directory phone books from 1992 to 2002 revealed that business is booming for alternative therapists and cosmetic surgeons. While shopkeepers supplying fresh foods are disappearing from the high street, aromatherapists have increased by 5200%, shiatsu practitioners are up by 3100%, cosmetic surgeons by 1780%, diet and weight specialists by 1440%, nutritional advisers by 969% and reflexologists by 830%. Hypnotherapists offering to help people give up smoking or lose weight have increased by 130%.
