Objective

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of acupuncture in veterinary medicine.

Materials and methods

A systematic literature search was conducted in Embase, Medline, Amed and Cinahl until May 2004 and the grey literature was hand-searched to retrieve all controlled trials of any form of acupuncture focusing on therapeutic effects in domestic animals and pets. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated using the modified Jadad scale, which was adapted to veterinary needs. Data on the study design, diagnosis, intervention and outcome measure as well as the overall results were extracted and additional relevant information was specified.

Results and conclusion

The results and conclusion will be presented at the symposium.
