Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tea

Chinese researchers investigated eight brands of Chinese tea, including one black tea, for 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), assessing the concentration and health risk. They found that the tea samples contained 323–8800 μg/kg of PAHs, with the highest concentration found in black tea. The team found PAHs in all the samples and concluded that they were unlikely to be harmful consumed at a rate of 10g dry tea per day infused for 10 min.
