Cannabinoids may prevent Alzheimer’s pathology

Spanish researchers studied the function of cannabinoid receptors in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). They found that a synthetic version of the compound prevented microglia activation in the brain, thus reducing inflammation, and acted to protect the brain. The researchers concluded that cannabinoids may succeed in preventing the neurodegenerative process occurring in AD and hope that this will eventually lead to the development of new drug therapies.
