This book is a summary of the proceedings of a CAM conference that took place in Japan in 2002. Most of the content is written by Japanese authors. The range of subjects is vast, anything from basic to clinical science or from mechanisms of action of herbal constituents to hydrotherapy and its effects on peripheral leukocytes. It is therefore not surprising that this book suffers from a lack of consistency. In other words, this is not an introductory text to CAM. It has its place in a specialist library where it would be a useful reference book.
