Cost of conventional medical care drives consumers to CAM

A US study published in December 2004 by the Center for Studying Health System Change reports that nearly 6 million US adults turned to CAM because conventional medical treatment was too expensive. Those using CAM due to cost concerns were four times as likely to be uninsured and twice as likely to have low incomes. They were also more likely to report fair or poor health status. The report found that herbal remedies were the most common treatment used by this group.
