EU to tighten rules on the sale of vitamins

In July 2005 the EU decided to tighten rules on the sale of vitamins and minerals1 as per its directive, which was first approved by EU governments in 2002. This news has come as a blow to the Alliance for Natural Health, which had challenged the ban. It was widely expected that their challenge would be upheld after the European Court Advocate General, Leendert Geelhoed, pronounced the ban illegal in April 2005.2 Approximately 200 supplements will be banned from sale and upper limits will be set on vitamin doses. The ban came into force in August 2005 and could see up to 5000 products being removed from UK shelves.
