Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products elects chair and vice-chair

The European Medicines Agency’s Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) re-elected Konstantin Keller (Germany) as chair and Ioanna Chinou (Greece) as new vice-chair, with three-year mandates from 31 October 2007. The HMPC is responsible for activities aimed at assisting the harmonisation of procedures and provisions concerning herbal medicinal products laid down in EU Member States, and further integrating herbal medicinal products in the European regulatory framework. Keller, a pharmacist, has been director of the division of herbal, homoeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products at the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices since 1985. Ioanna Chinou, also a pharmacist, is associate professor of pharmacognosy and chemistry of natural products at the School of Pharmacy, University of Athens, Greece.
