Zambia needs collaboration between HIV/AIDS researchers and herbalists

The president of the Zambian Medical Association (ZMA), Swebby Macha, has called for conventional doctors and traditional herbalists to collaborate on quality research for potential HIV/AIDS treatments to help reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. According to the ZMA, many herbalists are producing products that falsely claim to cure AIDS, and people living with the disease purchase the counterfeit remedies. Macha calls for the safety, efficacy and composition of herbal HIV/AIDS treatments to be determined through collaboration and says the situation has been worsened by lack of clear government policy to guide research into a cure for HIV/AIDS.
