TERMS OF USE

  1. Introduction

The British National Formulary (BNF) is owned and controlled jointly by the British Medical Association, of BMA House, Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9JP, and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, of 1 Lambeth High Street, London, SE1 7JN (referred to in these Terms of Use as 'we', 'us' and 'the Publishers').

These Terms of Use, together with the MedicinesComplete terms and conditions, will govern your access to, and use of, the BNF on this website. Your continued use of this website will indicate your acceptance of the latest version of the Terms of Use current as at the time you enter the website. As the Terms of Use may be varied from time to time, you should check to make sure you are aware of the latest version.

  2. Intended audience

The BNF provides UK healthcare professionals with authoritative and practical information on the selection and clinical use of medicines in a clear, concise and accessible manner.

This website is intended to support healthcare professionals familiar with the scope and organisation of information within the BNF and as such assumes the level of professional training required to appropriately interpret the advice contained herein.

  3. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights, including copyright, database and trade mark rights, in material contained in the BNF belong either to us or our licensors and may not be used without permission except as expressly provided.

All the information in the BNF is subject to copyright unless expressly indicated otherwise.

  4. Permitted use

Users may view, use, reproduce or store copies of Publishers' Material without seeking permission provided it is for non-commercial:

    1. personal or professional use; or
    2. research, private study or in a non-commercial document with limited circulation (such as an academic thesis or dissertation); or
    3. uses permitted by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. (These provisions permit, among other things, fair use of the material for the purposes of education, instruction, examination, criticism, review or news reporting),

(the 'Permitted Purposes'), provided any reproduction is accompanied by the mandatory acknowledgment referred to below.

  5. Permission required

If you wish to use, reproduce or store copies of the Publishers' Material in a manner that goes beyond the Permitted Purposes, for example distribute it for any purpose (commercial or non-commercial), please contact us to obtain permission. For example, distribution of Publishers' Material (with or without charge) is not permitted and will amount to copyright infringement unless the Publishers' prior written permission has been obtained.

In deciding whether a use goes beyond the Permitted Purposes, the matters considered will include: the purpose of the use (commercial, non-commercial or educational); the nature of the copyrighted work; the amount copied in relation to the size of the copyrighted work as a whole; the value of the copyrighted work; and whether the use is accompanied by the mandatory acknowledgment referred to below.

  6. Mandatory acknowledgment

Any permitted reproduction of information on this website (whether Publishers' Material or otherwise) must be accompanied by an acknowledgment of the website as the source, citing the uniform resource locator (URL) of the material and the author of the work.
