TERMS OF USE

  1. Introduction

The BNF for Children (BNFC) is owned and controlled jointly by the British Medical Association, of BMA House, Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9JP, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, of 1 Lambeth High Street, London, SE1 7JN, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, of 50 Hallam Street, London W1W 6DE, and the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group, of 1 Union Court, Liverpool L2 4SJ (referred to in these Terms of Use as 'we', 'us' and 'the Publishers').

These Terms of Use, together with the MedicinesComplete terms and conditions, will govern your access to, and use of, the BNFC on this website. Your continued use of this website will indicate your acceptance of the latest version of the Terms of Use current as at the time you enter the website. As the Terms of Use may be varied from time to time, you should check to make sure you are aware of the latest version.

  2. Intended audience

The BNF for Children is for use by health professionals engaged in prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines to children. It has been prepared under the guidance of the Paediatric Formulary Committee.

BNF for Children has been constructed using robust procedures for gathering, assessing and assimilating information on paediatric drug treatment. It is, however, expected that the reader will be relying on appropriate professional knowledge and expertise to interpret the contents in the context of the circumstances of the individual child. BNF for Children should be used in conjunction with other appropriate and up-to-date literature and, where necessary, supplemented by expert advice. Special care is required in managing childhood conditions with unlicensed medicines or with licensed medicines for unlicensed uses.

Responsibility for the appropriate use of medicines lies solely with the individual health professional.

This website is intended to support healthcare professionals familiar with the scope and organisation of information within the BNFC and as such assumes the level of professional training required to appropriately interpret the advice contained herein.

  3. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights, including copyright, database and trade mark rights, in material contained in the BNFC belong either to us or our licensors and may not be used without permission except as expressly provided.

All the information in the BNFC is subject to copyright unless expressly indicated otherwise.

  4. Permitted use

Users may view, use, reproduce or store copies of Publishers' Material without seeking permission provided:

    1. the uses are permitted by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. (These provisions permit, among other things, fair use of the material for the purposes of education, instruction, examination, criticism, review or news reporting (see also below)); and
    2. it is for non-commercial personal or professional use; or
    3. it is for non-commercial research, private study or in a non-commercial document with limited circulation (such as an academic thesis or dissertation),

(the 'Permitted Purposes'), provided any reproduction is accompanied by the mandatory acknowledgment referred to below.

  5. Permission required

If you wish to use, reproduce or store copies of the Publishers' Material in a manner that goes beyond the Permitted Purposes, for example distribute it for any purpose (commercial or non-commercial), please contact us to obtain permission. For example, distribution of Publishers' Material (with or without charge) is not permitted and will amount to copyright infringement unless the Publishers' prior written permission has been obtained.

In deciding whether a use goes beyond the Permitted Purposes, the matters considered will include: the purpose of the use (commercial, non-commercial or educational); the nature of the copyrighted work; the amount copied in relation to the size of the copyrighted work as a whole; the value of the copyrighted work; and whether the use is accompanied by the mandatory acknowledgment referred to below. For example (but not exclusively), downloading a substantial amount of the Publishers' Material onto any digital device for 'off-line' use is not within the Permitted Purposes.

Please note, the Publishers' Material undergoes extensive quality assurance. Any reformatting of this material not covered by the Permitted Purposes is expressly prohibited as it will undermine these robust processes. Reformatting may corrupt the Publishers' Material and render it unsuitable for use.

The Publishers will vigorously pursue any breaches of these rules.

  6. Mandatory acknowledgment

Any permitted reproduction of information on this website (whether Publishers' Material or otherwise) must be accompanied by an acknowledgment of the website as the source, citing the uniform resource locator (URL) of the material and the author of the work.
