MedicinesComplete offers sophisticated authentication mechanisms for multiple user subscriptions known collectively as federated access management methods. These rely on the users' organisation or another trusted party to validate access to MedicinesComplete. Access methods currently available include the Athens service from Eduserv, Shibboleth from Internet2, and Single Sign-On using industry standard protocols. Shibboleth and Athens access is provided via OpenAthens (from Eduserv) and membership of the UK Federation. Shibboleth allows for access via your home organisation through the UK Federation site or through your own organisation's site. In addition to the above methods MedicinesComplete also supports access via username and password, IP address validation and Geolocation validation.

Federated searching describes the ability for a user to search simultaneously across multiple databases from multiple suppliers via a single search screen. Organisations can include MedicinesComplete in their federated search systems by implementing an OpenSearch interface. Thus end users benefit from using MedicinesComplete's powerful search facilities whilst retaining the familiar layout of their own website. A combination of federated access management together with OpenSearch gives consortia or intermediaries the ability to offer the additional benefit of portal access to data. The majority of documents contained within MedicinesComplete publications are comprehensively referenced and these can be tailored into links that provide seamless access to your organisation's full text journal articles or pre-exisitng document ordering facility. This is acheived via compatability with open url standards. This enhances the search experience by providing access to relevant content from a single search session. Reference links to Pubmed provide additional integration with supporting evidence. Open Url links can be tailored match your institutional requirements within the administrative interface.
The majority of the content on MedicinesComplete is available for licensing, allowing end users to integrate information into their systems within intranets or private networks.
