The Drugs and Ancillary Substances section of Martindale contains drug monographs and treatment summaries arranged in groups based on clinical use. The drug monographs are listed alphabetically within each group and the treatment summaries, which describe the role of drugs in the treatment of a range of diseases, appear within the introductory section of each, often in a section on 'Choice of treatment'.
Information about the properties and actions of the drugs and other substances covered by Martindale is presented in drug monographs. Drug monographs are divided into sections, typically including
Each section usually starts with a summary of the relevant information for that section followed by referenced reviews and abstracts that elaborate or expand on this information. Links to the sections appear at the top of the monograph to aid navigation. The most commonly used sections are included in the Advanced Search interface to allow you to limit your search to a particular aspect of drug action.
Lists of single and multi-ingredient proprietary and non-proprietary preparations are given at the end of each monograph and these are linked to the preparations records.
Dates of monograph revision appear in monograph records. Dates represent the dates at which information in that record has been re-validated plus the date of the most recent modification.
'Supplementary Drugs and Other Substances' contains monographs for drugs that are not easily classified.
The 'Archive of Deleted Monographs' contains abbreviated monographs for substances that are no longer in use nor of general interest. Archived monographs are not routinely revised and updated and are retained for historical interest.
Drug monographs and treatment summaries can be found by browsing the contents list or using search. A text search will usually bring the most relevant monograph to the top of the results list. Advanced search can be used to limit the search to drug monographs or monograph sections. Treatment summaries can be retrieved by entering a disease term and selecting the 'Uses and Administration' section.
