Searching for proprietary (trade) names

Proprietary names for products from more than 30 countries have been added (see the list of countries covered).

Names are linked to their active ingredient and the search retrieves any interactions listed for that ingredient.

The proprietary name and its active ingredients are displayed in the thesaurus display with the results.

To check on which ingredients have been included in the search:

• click on the symbol to expand the display
• expand the 'Active ingredients' list to see the ingredient names
• if there is a message indicating that the same name has been used for products containing different ingredients in different countries, check which ingredients are relevant using a local source before proceeding

Notes:

Proprietary formulations sometimes change. Always confirm that the current local formulation contains the active ingredients stated.

Possible interactions between different ingredients in the same preparation will not be retrieved.

To replace the proprietary name in your original search with a particular ingredient, click on the ingredient in the thesaurus display. The search will re-run automatically.

If your subscription includes Martindale, you can check the ingredients listed for a preparation in a specified country by expanding the 'name for' list to select the entry for the appropriate country.
